Beethoven 3 Last Sonatas |
|
The last three sonatas were the ones Sonoda often chose for the concert as a touchstone of his performance. He played these same pieces also at the charity concert held at the Beethoven House in Bonn. This disc is recorded in 1994.

Beethoven Sonata "Hammerklavier" |

This disc won the Record Academy Awards in 1996. Colossal "Hammerklavier" sonata is coupled with Op22, a grand scale sonata from Beethoven's early period.

"Appassionata" the utmost masterpiece of Beethoven" sonatas is among the pieces Sonoda played most often as he did at his 75th anniversary concert. Fantasie Op.77 is a piece not so frequently heard but Sonoda loved this one as his repertoire. These are coupled with "Lebewohl" sonata and recorded in 1993 and 1994.

From Beethoven's middle period, "Waldstein" sonata, two Ronds and Andante are chosen here. This Andante was originally written as the second movement of "Waldstein".

Two pieces from Beethoven's last period, "Diabelli Variations" of grand scale and his last Bagatelles are coupled here. This "Diabelli" is often praised as SonodaチT best performance. Theses were recorded in the spring of 1994 at the same session with "Hammerklavier" sonata.

These early sonatas from Op.2 ,No.1, 2 and 3 were recorded in the spring of 1996 after Sonoda finished recording Beethoven's monumental works. The piece which fully prepared Beethoven published as sonata No.1 shows an epitome of his music in its simple motif.

|
Op.10-3 is one of Beethoven's early sonatas frequently played by musical students. It is coupled with two fine variations and polonaise from his middle period.
